Dock & Door Service Mechanic (Dearborn Location)

Applied Handling, Inc. is a leader in the distribution of loading dock equipment and industrial doors as well as installers of overhead doors, loading dock equipment and warehouse material handling equipment. We have a career opportunity for full time Dock and Door Service Mechanics. 

Service Mechanics are responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and upgrading a wide variety of warehouse equipment and industrial doors at customer facilities. Service Mechanics work independently or in small teams, and work directly with customers and our sales force to ensure our customers have safe, efficient warehouse.

This position has the following requirements:

  • Preferred candidates should have a strong emphasis on welding, electrical and/or hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience with electromechanical systems is preferred; however, entry level candidates will be considered
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to work outdoors, at heights, and lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to learn a wide variety of equipment and skills quickly

Quality Assurance Specialist – (Dearborn Location)

POSITION PURPOSE:  To exceed customer expectations for service and product installation activities for our Eastern Michigan customers.  These tasks are accomplished through improved communication by working closely with Sales Professionals, the Safety Manager, the Technician Scheduler and the Operation’s Manager.

This position reports to Scott Murray, Partner Sales and Operations.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for helping to create efficiencies between the Sales Professionals and the Operations Department (field technicians) while raising quality.  This includes:

  • Reviews the next day’s schedule with the scheduler to determine which jobs are best to visit based on salesperson, technician and complexity. 
  • Daily jobsite visits of ongoing jobs to verify that the work orders are clear while detecting and helping to resolve issues early with the technicians by getting the right people involved early.  In a sense, this role is designed to help think through challenges so that the schedule is maintained.
  • On certain projects, attend project startup meetings, ensuring good communication with all parties and fostering good relationships with customers, contractors, and other parties on the job.

The incumbent will be responsible for expeditiously resolving any problem jobs by focusing on a prompt completion of the project while meeting customer expectations.  In some instances, the problem will be addressed with others that need to resolve. But, in all instances, coaching of sales professionals and technicians to create future awareness is the goal.

This position must maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on all Rite-Hite products and commonly sold allied products.

The successful candidate will support our safe and healthy workplace philosophy for Applied Handling employees and subcontractors.  This includes modeling safe behaviors and safety policies, supporting safety training programs, conducting safety audits of Technicians and subcontractors, and monitoring safety on job sites.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support of the installation and service department by ensuring quality of work and timely completion while containing costs and exceeding customer expectations.

Foster good communication and relationships among customers, contractors, subcontractors, Technicians, and Sales Professionals.

Maintain a daily log of projects, challenges and solutions and help identify common issues and look for solutions to prevent them in the future.

Overview daily tasks and jobs assigned to the technicians to make certain that work description matches work on site, technician understands scope while helping to raise the customer’s satisfaction.

Identify opportunities for improvement based on common issues and offer suggestions for improvement in the future.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must be able to read and understand all documents pertaining to project planning.  Having prior supervisory experience is a plus since coaching of teammates is an essential task.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations as well as have a basic understanding of geometry and equipment layout.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
