INDUSTRY: MANUFACTURER OF HEALTH AND NUTRITION SUPPLEMENTS FOR PEOPLE & ANIMALS
PROJECT SUMMARY: PROVIDE SOLUTION TO SEPARATE AREAS OF A WAREHOUSE TO STOP CROSS CONTAMINATION OF PRODUCTS DURING MANUFACTURING
PROJECT CAPTAIN: JOHN SNELL
INSTALLATION BY: APPLIED HANDLING
EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER: RITE-HITE® ZONEWORKS® WASH DOWN CURTAIN WALLS
Situation: Customer wanted to create three rooms with walls from floor to ceiling in the middle of their warehouse to stop cross contamination between the different supplements during the manufacturing process.
Challenge: Customer needed to be able to open the sides of each room to install mixing equipment, put the product into the mixers, and clean the rooms between product changes, needing to wash down the inside of each room for FDA purposes. Permanent walls weren’t an option because they were both too expensive and process-limiting.
Design Process: John met with the customer, discussed their needs, and surveyed the site. He then explained the Zoneworks® products and design process. The customer liked the flexibility of the fabric walls, and the reduced cost compared to permanent walls. John reports, “Since this was a metal building, we had angled roof joists and different sized roof support to attach to. I brought in Service Manager, Brian Turner, not only for budgeting, but also to explain to the customer the installation process.” (With support steel to be installed and hanging 25’ high curtains, the installation took three men two weeks to complete.)
Solution: Zoneworks® SCW Wash Down Curtain Walls
Keys to Success: “This was a very ‘visible’ project within this company,” John states. “By sitting down with the customer and reviewing his application, not only with sales effort but including the installation process, we were able to make the customer feel confident that Rite-Hite® and Applied Handling would provide the best solution for his needs.” John notes that some of the other curtain wall suppliers simply asked for dimensions to quote without making a jobsite visit, telling the customer they could install the walls themselves. The customer ultimately chose the Zoneworks Wash Down Curtain Walls option not only because they liked the product, but also because they had confidence that John and his team would provide them with a well-engineered and professionally installed solution.
John’s Advice: “Make sure the customer realizes he or she is not just hanging a shower curtain. Zoneworks Wash Down Curtain Walls are engineered products for each application. There is a good chance that support steel may be needed, so by including your installation group in the process, you will really help the customer have confidence that you will truly meet their needs. The competition isn’t doing that.”
More about the Installation: Applied Handling’s Operations Department was instrumental in the smooth installation and project management portion of this job. Thanks to Marco Palazzola, Gary Vincen, Rob Klinefelter and the entire Ops team.
