From The Desk of Marty Benkarski – Safety Manager at Applied Handling
With The Holidays wrapping up, I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful time.
It is that time of the season for snow and ice. Remember when shoveling snow, lift with the legs and not the back. Pace yourself, take breaks often, go inside and warm up if necessary. Watch out for ice.
Applied Handling equips all their service trucks with bags of salt to insure our technicians have a safe slip resistant area to work.
Applied Handling is continuing to make strides in keeping Safety a top priority. In my last blog I discussed our plans for improving our Safety program. I am happy to report that in 2016 along with our daily tool box talks, monthly safety meetings we began training on our 13 Safety Modules. We started this in July and have completed 5.
These 13 modules are:
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Emergency Action/ Proper Fire Extinguisher Use
- Hazcom (Hazardous Communication)
- LoTo (Lock Out / Tag Out)
- PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
- Ladder Safety
- Cranes and Slings
- Welding and Cutting
- Door Safety
- Dock Leveler Safety
- Electrical Safety
- GHS Training (Globally Harmonized System)
- Fall Protection
We have also trained four additional technicians on OSHA ten. Applied Handling knows that a well-trained employee helps make a safe employee. We encourage our employees to not only practice safe work habits at work and away but to observe and if necessary help and educate others to work safely. We look forward to a safe and productive 2017.
